Kingshot Troop Training: Promote vs Train

When you’re managing your troops in Kingshot, a common dilemma is whether to train new units or promote existing ones. The most efficient approach depends on timing, but the general rule is straightforward: always train the second-highest tier you’ve unlocked and save your promotions for major events like Hall of Glory (HoG), Kingdom vs Kingdom (KvK), and Strongest Governor. During these events, promoting troops yields more event points for the same number of speedups compared to training from scratch. You can verify this yourself using the Troop Training Calculator, which lets you compare the point-per-speedup ratio between the two actions.

Once you unlock T7 troops, for example, focus on training T6 units. Then, during a major event, promote those T6s to T7 to maximize your score and climb the leaderboard. Repeat the pattern as you unlock higher tiers: when T9 becomes available, train T8 and promote them during events. This cycle ensures you get the highest possible return on your speedups while steadily upgrading your army.

Keeping a large pool of low-tier troops also creates hidden risks. Your infirmary has limited capacity, and lower-tier units fill it first when you take losses in battle. If your infirmary is clogged with weak troops, your stronger units can be permanently lost. By promoting low-tier troops during events, you minimize that risk and ensure your best soldiers survive attacks. Recovery after battles becomes much easier when you’re not scrambling to replace high-tier losses.
